Well, it looks like ice fishing is going to be a bust this year. at least we got out one time.

Gunny and i got out on the river this last saturday and had a pretty good day doing some float fishing. my 3 drift of the day produced my biggest steelie in a couple of years, on 4lb line to boot.

Didn’t weight or measure this buck but i’m guessing he was in the 12-13lb range with great color. I lost one other steelie right after this in the same spot, then the rest of the day was filled with a lot of trout in the 10-16″ range, i did lose one nice brownie in the high teens. as far as gunny, lets just say he couldn’t get much going today..

R.I.P. float bridge fox

Deer season is officially done. It been a pretty good year overall. I took a doe with my bow on dec 31st which was a nice way to finish off the season. Unfortunately the nice buck that we’ve been hunting at Daskins made it through the season only to get taken down by the damn coyotes. He found him last week so we went ahead and took the head and we’ll make a european mount so the float bridge fox isn’t forgotten.

Shopping Cart and I hit the Grand with his co-worker on 1.7.12 looking for some dead bodies and maybe a steelhead or two. went’ ended up putting 4 fish in the net, 3 hens that were 5-7lbs and a nice fresh buck around 10lbs. all fish came under floats, 3 on spawn and the other on a jig with power maggots. Not a bad way to spend a january day when there is no ice around.

Recent Hunting updates and some Hogs from WI

We’ve all been hitting the woods pretty hard the last couple weeks and as expected deer sighting have dropped significantly since opener. Were still getting pics of a nice 8pt that has made it through the season so far, hopefully he’ll make it rest of the way unless he drops to one of our arrows or muzzle blasts. My good friend, his wife and family had a great gun season in WI. The couple dropped 2 awesome 9pts in the 120″ range on the same day out of the same stand.

And the kicker buck off the same property. This mainframe 10 was an absolute pig. Hasn’t been measured but has to be 150″+.. congrats from MI guys.

Another member put the smackdown on this MI spike on opening day.  congrats crums on your first buck on your first day hunting.

Deer Season Update 11.15.11

well, it’s the day we’ve been dreading, opening day of gun season . Just when we start patterning some good bucks the guns start blazing and all hell breaks loose. anyways, too busy to get into too much detail but i’ve been spending alot of time and stand and running a lot of trail cameras that are turning up some great bucks. My dad took this nice 4pt the day before opener with his crossbow, it dressed out at 125 lbs.

Heres a couple of the nicer bucks that we’ve been trying to get on top of before the gun opener started.

Bow Opener Success!

Gunny and I had a good opener. After not seeing a deer in the morning we checked a camera that we figured would be inactive, ended up having 3 different bucks on it in less than a day. So we decided to target a couple stands in that area and it paid off. gunny had a spike and 5pt come in around 6:30, he took a broadside shot at 15-20yds. meanwhile, i haven’t seen anything until about 7pm when i see a deer making his way towards me out of the swamp, in a matter of a couple minutes this buck is right under my stand. i waited for him to turn quartering away and i put the pin on the backside of the ribcage, the T3 made it’s way through the liver, both lungs, part of the heart and just through the outside shoulder. Gunnys deer took a little more tracking but same results, pretty certain these bucks are twins and 1.5yo.

long overdue updates

missed a ton of reports again. spent a few nights on beaver with unclegreggy, shopping cart howser and myself. got quite a bit of fishing in and got some decent fish. shopping care got the biggest LM of the trip at 22.5″ which was probably pushing 5lbs. been food plotting like crazy lately and getting new stands hung, should have some fresh venison on in the freezer, we’ve got 3 slickhead tags to fill and there are plenty around. been getting a few decent bucks on the trail camera, including two shooters an 8pt and 7pt.

7.8.11 reports

been trout bummin pretty hard the last 2 weeks. I’ve been out almost every day fishing a handful of different streams/rivers. We had some pretty high water about 2 weeks ago but no flows are back to normal summertime levels. i did lose two pigs that were well in to the 20″s in one day during the high water. Been getting some nice fish on flies, both surface and nymphs, haven’t been fishing streamers much lately. I finally broke 20″ this year last night, after bringing a few fish to hand on a fly i had about an hour stretch where i couldn’t turn a fish on anything i threw, then the switch flipped. I could barely make a cast without hooking up, including a lot of solid fish in the 12-16″ range, most being browns. Finished out with this dandy brown that taped out at 21″.
